Hispanic Heritage Month: Grow a heritage garden. Plant staple crops common in many Spanish-speaking countries, such as corn, beans, squash, and peppers. Keep a log tracking the growth of the various plants. Extend the project by researching staple foods of other regions.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Recreate Zapotec Rug Paintings from Mexico using paint. Begin with a sheet of poster board for each child. Using rulers and pencils, draw zigzag, stair-step, straight lines, and angular shapes. Use poster paints or markers to fill in the design.
