Superintendent Kershner has served public education in a wide variety of roles: teacher, coach, bus driver, assistant principal, principal, school board member, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. He took a 7-year hiatus from public education to work in life insurance and investments. Public schools were where his heart was, so he returned to the school arena.

In his words, "I missed this business every single day. I served for three years on my local community school board, which was Sealy ISD. It was during that period that I realized that my passion was to come back to public ed." Superintendent Kershner's wide range of experience provides him with a unique perspective on the role each person plays in student success. His expertise and passion lies in building relationships.

This is not his first experience with Royal ISD. Following his work in life insurance, he was Royal High School Assistant Principal for 2 years, followed by 10 years in Splendora ISD (High School Principal for 3 years, Assistant Superintendent for Leadership & Culture for 7 years). He returned to Royal in August 2020 to take the helm as Superintendent, and RISD is blessed to have him. He truly has an open door policy and is always welcoming to any community member who wants to share his or her perspectives. Superintendent Kershner is a visionary servant leader, focused on continuous improvement and the goal of improving the life of a child each and every day.
