Investing in Our Tomorrow: May 24 Community Advisory Committee Meeting Recap

On May 24, 2021, 29 members of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) met at Royal Elementary School (2-5) to hear about Royal ISD facility needs at RES and across the district. Royal Superintendent Rick Kershner discussed feedback and answered questions from the May 11 CAC meeting. Mr. Kershner also covered the square footage and age of each Royal ISD building as well as the maintenance resources the district is currently able to devote to maintaining its facilities.

Steve Risser from Gallagher Construction discussed finances and potential bonding capacity, options for facility repairs, construction costs, and next steps. This portion of the meeting included a discussion over how to balance student needs with facility repair and  potential new construction. The committees’ discussion was productive, and Royal looks forward to a continued partnership with the committee members. The meeting ended with a facility tour to demonstrate the campus needs, including food preparation equipment updates, foundation issues, roofing repairs, plumbing, water fountains, and security updates.

The next meeting will be held at 6PM on June 7 at Royal Elementary School (PK-1), followed by a 6PM meeting on June 15 at Royal High School. Additional meetings will be scheduled to conduct strategic planning.

We encourage members of the Royal community to join this group as we continue to evaluate facility and student needs and work to create a strategic plan for ensuring the best possible education for all Falcon students. Please send an email to cginn@royal-isd.net if you are interested in attending future meetings.
