Royal ISD Foodservice Team Receives FARECheck Certification

Training Program Reinforces Chartwells K12 Commitment to A Safe Dining Environment for All Students

With food allergies affecting 1 in 13 children in the U.S., Royal ISD and its foodservice partner, Chartwells K12, recognize the critical importance of taking a careful approach to support students and families who manage food allergy issues every day. Today, Royal’s team of foodservice associates completed FARECheck, a comprehensive food allergen training program certified by Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE), the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to food allergy awareness, education, research, and advocacy.

“Our team is always looking for ways they can improve the student dining experience,” said Josh Wojciechowski, Director of Dining Services with Chartwells K12 at Royal ISD “Being fully informed on our allergy processes and procedures not only helps keep students safe, but it allows our team to make recommendations based on student restrictions and preferences to serve up happy and healthy every day.”

Chartwells K12 is the first in the child nutrition industry to have its allergen management training courses certified by FARE who has reviewed and accredited them with the FARECheck Certification. This comprehensive training and certification program prepares foodservice staff for responsible food handling regarding allergens and anaphylaxis. It adds to Chartwells K12’s best-in-class allergy management program developed in collaboration with Registered Dietitians, Chefs, purchasing experts, and quality assurance professionals.

“We are proud to work with FARE on establishing and maintaining this program,” said Josh Wojciechowski of Chartwells K12. “This partnership will ensure our training programs remain aligned with the latest advancements in food allergen management, and students will benefit from foodservice teams who are knowledgeable and well-versed in food allergen management.”

Chartwells K12’s comprehensive allergy protocol provides instruction and expectations to foodservice teams, laying the foundation that ensures safe meals for all students. They adhere to specific purchasing policies to avoid peanuts and tree nuts and maintain a complete database of food labels and allergen statements for all products on menus. Allergen information is available to students, parents, and medical professionals through the Royal ISD’s menus on Nutrislice, which can be accessed via the web or mobile app. https://royal-isd.nutrislice.com/menu
