Changing the World: Spotlight on RHS Student Maria Flores

Royal High School junior Maria Flores has been involved for two years in the Houston Holocaust Museum Student Ambassador for Engines of Change program. Maria was recently given the chance to explore blacklisting in Hollywood during the Cold War, and was honored to add her own thoughts and words to the exhibit. She also met with and learned from two Holocaust survivors. Maria was excited to share the experience and what she learned with her friends and with her history teacher.

Maria was also accepted to Camp Shakespeare, which only accepts 14 students in each session. She was not only accepted but was also given a full scholarship, valued at over $1700. She was cast as Lady Macbeth for the camp performance. In addition to her activities at the Houston Holocaust Museum, Maria is in NHS, theater, UIL Prose, FFA, and yearbook. She also organizes community events when she sees a need. She is currently ranked in the top 10% of her class. We are proud of Maria for representing Royal.

Maria's teacher and mentor, RJH teacher Brittany Beall, stated, "I am so proud of all she does. I just know she will change the world."
