Letter from School Board President Elton Foster:

Principals of Royal, I know it hasn’t been easy to go on spring break ready to come back to your campus and finish up another great year. Instead, you found out that you would not be able to return and did not know when you would be able to see your colleagues or students. We had to face a new norm of virtual learning, social distancing, and quarantine. Yet, as you so often do, you found a way to make education happen. We appreciate you working with each other and the Central office to keep our students on track.

We appreciate you on your day!!!

Elton Foster

Letter from School Board Trustee Emily Hillsman:

Dear Principals, I know this year’s Principal Appreciation Day looks a lot different than in years past, but that is all the more reason to let you know just how appreciated you are. In addition to your normal full plate, you’ve added courses (ha! See what I did, there?) of online learning, remote faculty management, and online counseling services to our teachers and students. These are trying times, and you have held it together and led your campus with grace and perseverance. Thank you for all you have done both in the last two months and throughout the school year. You are appreciated and valued by the Royal ISD family.

Keep up the great work!

Emily Hillsman

Letter from Ms. Chriss:

Letter from Ms. Chriss:

I am honestly so thankful and grateful that Mr. Runnels Took a chance on me. I had never worked in high school before and It feels really great to work for someone that doesn’t underestimate what you can do. I have really found my home at Royal High School, I love the environment and I love The kids. I am Thankful for Mr. Runnels because every day I get to go to work and love what I do! It has never felt like a job to me, and I attribute that to Mr. Runnels allowing me to have creative freedom and allowing me to be who I am. I have been able to reach so many kids because I have freedom to do what I need to do and he always allows me to do that. He has always had my back and supported anything I have wanted to try or do. I also love that he is there to talk about my personal life if I need to. It is such a relief and a blessing to have a principal like Mr. Runnels.

Letter from Ms. Russo:

I'd like to share a few thoughts about Mr. Runnels. Although he has been there for me as a teacher by being supportive, empowering, and understanding, when I personally suffered losses, he was there for me too. You really can't say that about every principal. I truly believes that he cares for me as a teacher and well as a person.Mr. Runnels brings this same support and caring to the student body. He uses his "tough love" approach to motivate and encourage students to be the best that they can be and to realize their full potential. A lot of what Mr. Runnels does is behind the scenes...making sure the softball field is ready, making sure the kids have calculators, making sure the teachers get goodies for teacher appreciation. I wish him the very best on this year's Principal Appreciation Day. I truly appreciate him.

Letter from RHS Senior Benjamin Ybarra:

Mr. Runnels,

Thank you for all you have done for us students since you became our principal. I know this year didn’t go as planned and a lot of senior activities and etc. has been cancelled because of COVID-19 but you still manage to show us students how much you care. Me personally, I thank you pushing me to become the best I can be. Thank you so much for letting us seniors still get the opportunity to still graduate this year, I’m going continue to keep doing what I do best at Prairie View and make a name for myself. #GOPANTHERS
