MS. ORTIZ
Hi! My name is Maria Edith Ortiz, I am number 7 of 8 children. I love my mother so much and I am blessed she is still alive. I was born in Cordoba, Veracruz. Veracruz is one of the states in Mexico. In Mexico, I received my degree to be a Preschool Teacher and worked at Gandhi Elementary School for many years. In addition, I attended several workshops, seminaries and conferences related to education. We relocated to another state in Mexico and I worked at Montessori School. Later, my family and I decided to move to United States and now live in Houston. I decided to go back to school and enrolled at Lone Star College to improve my English. I received my Associates degree in Education. I continued my education at The University of Houston Downtown. In 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish with a minor in Education. I worked as a Substitute Teacher in Katy ISD. I started working at Royal ISD with a long-Term position as an RTI Bilingual Teacher. I am going to be a 1st Grade Bilingual Teacher here at ECC. One of my major passions is to teach. I love teaching! I am patient, enthusiastic, organized, and creative. I believe children learn and develop best in a safe, inviting, and friendly atmosphere. I feel mutual respect is a fundamental key in every classroom. I have many talents that aid in making my classroom a fun and exciting place to learn. I love to prepare class presentations, dramas and plays, dances, and art exhibits. I am able to teach the core skills in an interesting way. I feel that doing many things in a classroom make learning more effective and fun for students. I believe in having good communication with my students and their parents. I enjoy working with other teachers and faculty.
I know for sure that you know many Maria’s here in the United States-that’s why I prefer to go by Edith-it is the way my family and friends refer to me. But I know everyone now knows me as Mrs. Ortiz. I would like to share a little bit about my family! I am married to my fantastic husband! His name is Erasto and he is Agriculture Engineer. I have two children. My oldest child is Daniel. He graduated from UHD with a degree in communication. He is married to his wife Camille and she will graduate next August from MD Anderson Cancer Center. with a degree in Health Care Disparities, Diversity, and Advocacy. I have a beautiful daughter named Flor. She is almost finished with her degree to be a Teacher in Special Education. She is married to her husband Rockwell, He is a young veteran soldier and a Paramedic. I have a dog named Diamante or Diamond in English. He is a white Labrador Retriever. He has only 3 years old. I love to play and walk with him every day! My mother and siblings live in Mexico, but I love to visit with them. I have many hobbies including camping, reading, and listening to music of the 50’s and 60’s era (rock & roll and Swing). I also love to dance. I love Italian food, Tiramisu cake, and Starbucks green tea Frappuccino! I have 4 favorite phrases that I always share with my children and students:
