The single biggest predictor of high academic achievement is reading to children. Not flash cards, not workbooks, not fancy preschools, not blinking toys or or computers, but mom and dad taking the time every day or night (or both!) to sit and read to their child.
7th & 8th grade STEM Academy girls are mentoring our 4th & 5th grade girls. They meet after school on Tuesdays to walk and talk. Our big sisters are mentoring their "little sisters" and helping them build their self-esteem, self-image, and self-confidence.
