Greetings Falcon Nation!!! I trust that everyone is safe during this difficult time. I just wanted to touch base with the entire Falcon Family. By now, I'm sure you are aware of the mandate by Governor Abbott that all Texas schools will remain closed for the 2019-2020 school year. This means that we will continue on with our distance learning program for our students. There may be some questions or concerns about our distance learning program. I want to answer those questions and address those concerns. Our distance learning program utilizes Google Classroom as a platform for learning. Our students and teachers are very familiar with this program because we utilize the program on a daily basis.(RHS) has been designated by the State of Texas as a GAFL(Google Apps For Learning) campus. Students have also been provided the program Edgenuity. Edgenuity is a program that is aligned with the TEKS(Texas Essential Knowledge Skill). Students have the opportunity to work on assisgnments and lessons at their own pace. This is benefical for reinforcement, reteaching, comprehension, and overall learning. The activities may appear to be long but the activities are broken down into units each week with specific deadlines. Our teachers meet weekly to discuss concepts that are essential for students to know and learn. We do not want our students to become overwhelmed, we encoure each student to pace themselves and spend 35 to 40 minutes per day for each classs. This will allow students to stay on task and not fall behind. Our goal is to promote academic success. We have teachers avaliable to answer questions from 8am to 4pm daily. We have online library resoures for students to utilize 24 hours per day. We have homework assistance and peer tutoring for all students from 4pm to 6pm Monday thru Thursday. We will also allow students to work on Edgenuity and all assignemnts after hours to assist in their pursuit of academic success. Although we are following the RISD grading policy, we will be relentless in our efforts to ensure that all students are afforded the opportunity to be successful academically and pass all courses. We are aware that some areas may not have internet sevices avaliable. We are working with various agencies to bring wifi to areas in RISD that do not have service. We also have downloaded offline lessons in goggle classroom for students that do not have access to the internet at home. These students may complete their assignemnts offline and when the opportunity presents itself, they may drive to the parking lot of RHS and connect to our district internet and sync their offline assignemnts. Distance learning is different, but we are Royal and we will stand up to the challenge. Our district is currently a B-Rated (Recognized) School District by the State of Texas. We are very proud of this accomplishment. We want our students to continue with this success and not fall behind. Our motto is "Soar to Success and Expect Nothing Less"!!!
