The Royal Welding Department had 1 state qualifier competing in the Welding 1 event. This event was a Two-day ALL hands-on State Competition. The student representing Royal in this contest was Kevin Weatherford. His hard work and dedication in welding allowed him to thrive and earned him a spot in this contest. The competition consisted of 2 different Welding joints where he had only 3 hours to complete. He had to be able to read and comprehend the blueprint given to him and prepare his coupon before he started welding. He then had to weld in the positions given to him, which were a vertical weld and an overhead position weld. After he finished with his hands-on competition, he then entered an interview portion where he was interviewed and judged for his resume and overall interview presentation. On the second day of his competition, he proceeded to test online in a welding test on Metallurgy, General welding, Safety, Oxyfuel, and several different welding processes. Kevin was 1 Of the 13 Welders from the state of Texas that qualified for this event and enjoyed the opportunity to weld in a State contest at Corpus Christi. After his competition he was able to enjoy the rest of his trip by seeing what Corpus Christi had to offer.
