Yesterday our 7th, 9th, and 10th grade students visited the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum. The students reported that they felt inspired and uplifted, and some made new commitments to their personal work ethic both in and out of school!

Reduce conflict by discussing expectations, consequences:
Teens deserve more freedom than they had when they were younger. They should also take more responsibility for their behavior. But they still need rules, and that can lead to conflict with parents. To keep it to a minimum, involve your teen in setting expectations. Make expectations specific and clear, and agree on what the consequences will be if she doesn't meet them. Then stick to both.

The Lady Falcon Softball Team triumphed over the Fort Bend Marshall Lady Buffs last night with a score of 3 to 18. Player of the game and pitching ace Maddie Johnson recorded 6 strikeouts in the big win. Great job, Lady Falcons! We are proud of you!

Share a journal and build a writing connection:
When kids have time to think about what they want to say, they sometimes share their deepest thoughts. Try sharing a journal with your child. Glue a picture of the two of you on a notebook, then write something positive about your child. It might be about how hard he's trying in school or how he makes you laugh. Leave it for him to read. The next day, it is his turn to write to you. Keep it up all year!
