FIREWORKS IN WALLER COUNTY

We have been getting a lot of questions on whether or not fireworks can be shot this Fourth of July weekend in Waller County. Here is the deal:

During dry conditions, by law the county is permitted to ban certain fireworks, which include missiles with fins and rockets with sticks. Waller County commissioners court entered that order several weeks ago. Those type of fireworks are banned.

Other than the fireworks mentioned above, all other fireworks are permitted during this Fourth of July weekend in the unincorporated areas of Waller County.

Please remember that just because you can shoot off fireworks, doesn’t mean it is a good idea to do so. PLEASE EXERCISE COMMON SENSE. Many areas of the county are still suffering drought conditions and the grass is extremely dry. Please do not shoot fireworks in areas where there are ignitable sources of fuel - such as dry grass, hay fields, etc.

Please exercise extreme caution if you are shooting fireworks off this weekend. Be aware of your surroundings. A grass fire can easily ignite a structure or a house. Always keep water on hand if you are shooting fireworks and make sure you always shoot fireworks off from a flat level surface. It is also a good idea when shooting fireworks to build a barricade or box around the area that you are shooting fireworks from to protect bystanders, friends and family from any fireworks that may tip over while they are going off.

Please remember that many municipalities prohibit fireworks within their city limits as well.

If consumer fireworks are legal to buy where you live and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
  • Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
  • Never light them indoors
  • Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
  • Never ignite devices in a container
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire
  • Never use illegal fireworks

Please also remember our first responders that will have to respond to fire calls this weekend. By using common sense, we can keep them from being overloaded this weekend.
