School Counselor Week: What Does a School Counselor Do?

Counselors are licensed educators who address students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development needs by implementing and executing a counseling program aiming for student success, according to ASCA. They can work in elementary, middle, or high schools or in district supervisory roles.

School counselors aim to help students thrive academically, personally and socially, and assist them in exploring their options after high school.

"Our mission is supporting academic, career and social-emotional development with all students," says Jill Cook, assistant director for the American School Counselor Association, a Virginia-based nonprofit that supports and promotes the profession.

Our Falcon counselors work very hard to care for our students. Thank them the next time you see them around campus!
