Roadmap to 2020-2021 Two Learning oPTIONS

2020-2021 ROYAL ISD SCHOOL YEAR INFORMATION

Upcoming School Year Update

Royal ISD is excited to welcome students back to school on August 26. Parents and students will be able to choose between two learning options for the 2020-2021 school year:

  • traditional in-person learning on campus or

  • remote at-home learning.

The at-home option is being provided for our families who have health and safety concerns with sending their students back to school. Read on to learn more about each option.

Required Student Registration

Back to school registration will look a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All forms will be completed within our Student Registration Portal. If you have more than one child who will attend Royal ISD, you will need to register each child separately.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents and guardians of current Royal ISD students will be required to complete the 2020-2021 School Commitment Form to indicate their Learning Option selection for the 2020-2021 school year. We ask that parents and guardians complete this form by the Friday July 17, 2020 deadline. We have extended the deadline to provide our families with ample time to make the choice that works best for their child(ren).

Royal ISD’s Commitment to Our Community

Providing a safe environment for our students and staff is our top priority, and additional safety measures will be put in place in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 both in our schools and on our school buses. By providing your education setting preference, you will help us in planning our safety guidelines for the 2020-2021 school year. Please continue to monitor the district website and your email for additional updates.

Education Model Choices: DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2020

Royal ISD will be following the State’s mandates regarding the opening of the school year by offering two learning options. To assist us in preparing for the 2020-2021 school year, we are asking each parent/guardian to choose the preferred education model for your child(ren):

  • traditional in-person learning on campus or

  • at-home learning remote learning

Falcon Traditional Classroom Experience: In-Person Learning

  • Student receives traditional face-to-face instruction in a classroom setting.

  • Provides efforts to create a safe environment for our students and staff. Preventative health and safety measures will be put into place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout the district, on campuses, and on bus transportation.

  • Masks will be required of all staff and students during the school day and at all school sanctioned events (with a few State-approved exceptions).

Falcon Virtual Experience: At-Home Learning

  • Student receives 100% online instruction, but may be required to visit the campus from time to time for a required in-person learning task (such as an assessment, etc).

  • Students must complete designated assignments on time and must adhere to all RISD District grading policies.

  • Students must log in each school day to complete assigned learning activities.

  • Available to all Royal ISD students in their language of instruction.

  • Students learn remotely in online courses facilitated by Royal ISD teachers.

  • Families that do not have a device or internet connectivity will be eligible for district-issued equipment.

  • Students and parents who experience technical difficulties will have dedicated support.

Royal ISD will utilize a variety of quality digital educational resources to facilitate the virtual learning experience, including, but not limited to, online courses through Edgenuity and teacher-led courses in Google Classroom. Students will also have access to the Falcons Learn@Home resource portal, which contains a wealth of tools for students, parents, and teachers.

Parents’ choice of learning setting is binding for at least one grading period. If a parent wishes to switch from one learning setting to another (remote or face to face), they will have the opportunity to work with their student’s campus administrators to change their instructional setting selection during a designated window at the end of each grading period.

Regardless of the learning option chosen, all Royal ISD students will benefit from:

  • Instruction by certified teachers

  • Daily opportunities to engage with teachers

  • Rigorous curriculum and instruction

  • Social and emotional learning to support students and families

  • Continued family engagement
