Falcon Roadmap to 2020-2021: Reopening Royal ISD Falcon Roadmap to 2020-2021: Reopening Royal ISD

Dear Falcon Community,

I wanted to reach out to let you know that we are still working diligently to prepare and plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Texas Education Agency (TEA) is still developing guidance on how instruction will be structured in the fall.

TEA committed to provide funding to allow school districts to provide online synchronous (real-time online communication) and asynchronous learning activities (self-paced student work). TEA also provided additional details on their commitment to provide Texas schools with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at no charge to Texas school districts.

Unfortunately, RISD has not yet received direction and guidance on how to safely reopen for in-person instruction. With the first day of school quickly approaching, our families and staff need to be provided with a well-defined structure for the new year in order to plan for their children’s care and instructional times.

While we continue to await additional TEA guidance, Royal ISD will continue to build upon the lessons learned during the distance learning sessions in spring 2020. We are leveraging the community feedback obtained in our recent ThoughtExchange forum to transform the way we operate and support students during this uncertain time. Click here to review the feedback provided by the Royal community. The feedback that you provided has been grouped into the following themes:

  • Health, Safety, and COVID-19 Spread
  • Instructional Approaches
  • Parent Concerns
  • Sanitation and Cleaning
  • Scheduling
  • Student Activities, Recess, and Competitions
  • Teachers and Staff Considerations
  • Transportation

We pledge to continue leading our students to futures where they dream, work, and soar into achievements far beyond what they can imagine.

Dr. Guzman
