Message from Royal ISD: Precautionary Measures Being Taken Due to Possible COVID-19 Exposure

Parents and Staff,

Royal ISD has been notified that a student who attended the Cross-Country Conditioning session on Monday, June 22 has had direct exposure to an individual who recently tested positive for COVID-19. The Royal ISD student was not displaying any symptoms of the virus.

Based on the information that we have gathered, it has been determined that the end of the 14-day incubation period for anyone possibly exposed to the student is July 4, 2020. Out of an abundance of caution, we will be cancelling ALL athletic training sessions until July 3. Athletes have been notified of the cancellations. Sessions will resume on Monday, July 6, 2020.

We ask that all Royal athletes who have participated in recent training sessions self-quarantine for 14 days. We have advised them to monitor their health, follow the CDC guidelines for people who have had close contact, and contact their primary care physician if they develop symptoms.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19 and should seek testing:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Royal ISD is continuing to monitor this situation and will provide additional information as needed.

Sincerely,
RISD Superintendent of Schools
