Community Message from the Office of the Superintendent

 Dear Royal ISD community,

The last few weeks our hearts have been saddened as we have watched the tragic events unfold before our eyes. We should not be addressing events such as the tragic death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and Ahmaud Arbery in 2020 or at any other time in history. It is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching to see these unjust and intolerant behaviors still occurring in our society. These events serve to remind us that we still have work to do as a nation and as a community. We must continue to strive daily to make this a better place for all students by ensuring that our interactions, relationships, and actions are grounded in love and respect for each other regardless of the color of our skin.

Our vision at Royal ISD is to provide our students with a world class education that stresses whole child development in a climate of safety, equality, and fairness. Royal ISD is committed to providing all students with an environment where they feel safe and valued. As a school district, we are dedicated to educating all students. We know that in order for students to be able to learn they must feel safe, valued, and respected.

Royal ISD is creating a plan that will allow us to continue increasing our cultural and racial sensitivity. We are developing a plan that will allow us a school community to address any concerns. We will be looking to you as our community to collaborate with us. We know that as a school district, we need to listen and you need to feel heard.

It is my sincere hope that our Royal ISD community knows our heart. We will not tolerate or stand for any behavior or action that does not support a climate of safety, equality, and fairness for our students.

Your partner in education,

Dr. Leticia Guzman
RISD Acting Superintendent
