Joanna Oviedo Scholarship Signing

RHS senior Joanna Oviedo was presented with a scholarship from TSTC for her welding skills showcased at the Texas High School Welding Series event. Joanna will begin her educational journey at TSTC in the fall to pursue an associate degree in Welding Technology, and her scholarship will award her $500 a semester until she graduates. She plans on competing with the TSTC Welding SkillsUSA team Spring 2021. When asked how she chose welding, Joanna stated that she had no idea what she wanted to do for a career. “I was really scared because it was the 8th grade year and it was coming to an end. I had to think about what I wanted to do. But since The Royal Junior High has career day, students from the welding department came to talk to us 8th graders. But one of my friends named Selena introduced me to welding. She was talking about how she has been learning and that welding was a good career path to actually learn and study. Well that same day I had to choose my career pathway and I said Welding. Then from there I really wanted to take the career of welding.”

More about Joanna: Her parents' names are Maria Garcia Camacho and Juan Carlos Oviedo Rodriguez. She has three other siblings: RJH grader James Oviedo, 2017 RHS graduate Carlos Oviedo Garcia, and 2017 RHS graduate Daniela Abigail Oviedo Garcia. She is also involved in the Royal FFA.
